St Saviour Memorial - 9th December 2021
On Thursday 9th December we invited Andrew Nunn, the Dean of Southwark and Rev’d Jonathan Sedgewick, Acting Archdeacon of Southwark, to conduct the re-interment service which took place in our front courtyard. The choir sang ‘Only Remembered’ by David Sankey and Treasure read an extract from ‘Christmas Day at the Workhouse, by George R Sims.
A new plaque, on the Southwark Bridge Road part of our building, was unveiled during the service by the Dean and the Principal. This plaque commemorates the poor and destitute who came to St Saviour’s workhouse and were buried in the burial ground which lies beneath the courtyard.
