Brilliant Club Scholars Programme
Twenty-four students from Borough have begun an exciting new programme designed to give them a taster of university life - all before the age of 13!
The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme gives pupils from non-selective state schools the opportunity to work with a PhD researcher to experience university style learning. It helps pupils develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to secure a place at a highly selective university.
It is a challenging and demanding programme in addition to the standard school curriculum, but the students are finding that the experience and skills gained from the programme to be invaluable in the future. Impact evidence collected by the Brilliant Club suggests graduates of the programme are almost twice as likely to progress to highly-selective universities.
Year 7 students are learning about conflicts and war in association with the University of Brighton, while year 8 are studying literary theory with the Goldsmiths University, based in New Cross. At the end of the programme, it is planned that all students will visit a university for the day and have their own "graduation" ceremony.
Well done and good luck to all the students taking part!
