Monday 22 November 2021 Y9 Careers Day - 19th November On Friday 19th November, Year 9 were off timetable from period 2 to period 6 to participate in Career's Day. Careers day is a unique opportunity for year 9 engage with professionals from a wide range of sectors including law, medicine, construction, hospitality, charity, the arts and business.

Monday 22 November 2021 Goodbye to Grotto. Welcome Y7's It is with mixed emotions that we finally say goodbye to the Grotto site on Friday. It is a site that has served us really well for just over two years and I know the year 9s have some very fond memories of their time as the founding year group there.

Thursday 23 September 2021 The Africa Centre Collaboration 8Powell were treated to the most incredible workshop with the phenomenal Krar Collective singing and playing music on traditional instruments from Ethiopia. Students joined in playing the drums and learnt to dance some traditional dances. This is part of Borough Academy's ongoing relationship with the Africa Centre whose mission it is to educate through culture. They certainly achieved that as well as spreading huge amounts of joy!

Thursday 23 September 2021 Shakespeare on my Doorstep Programme This week, our Year 9 students had the opportunity to visit Shakespeare's Globe for a 90-minute workshop and tour. The pupils got to learn about when the Globe theatre was built, what materials it was made out of and all about the different areas of the theatre and how the seating represented social status in the Elizabethan period.

Thursday 23 September 2021 International Day of the Dot - 15th September Sept 15th was International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration that began in 2009. It is inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H Reynolds and encourages creative collaboration ad self-expression.

Monday 17 May 2021 Lion King Rehearsals A recent Lion King rehearsal was attended by a professional choreographer! Vibe Arts Theatre School, led by West End professionals and alumni of both stage and screen, came to practice last Wednesday to assist students with a routine of steps, movement and communication for their final performance.

Monday 7 December 2020 Home Learning by Mr Stow, Assistant Principal It is with a sense of frustration that the Borough Academy community finds itself back in the world of home learning. Our previous experience from last year made us proud of the incredible resilience and work ethic of our students who managed to adapt and persevere with a new way of learning. It also showed how innovative and dedicated our staff were in building a whole new skill set to teach via a computer screen.

Wednesday 11 November 2020 Black History Month Learning & Celebrations In Music, students have been playing in African drumming circles music from Mali, singing songs from Ghana and Nigeria and dancing the South African Gumboot Dance. In Drama they have been looking at the rich history of storytelling and the Griots, whose role it was to pass on the stories and histories from one generation to another. The Art department is looking at African textile design and dyes as well as asking all students to contribute a piece of artwork about their chosen black history hero or heroine. The Humanities departments have challenged the students to conduct a research project on the history, geography, religions, storytellers and philosophers from the ancient kingdoms of Africa to the present day. Also, in French, students are looking at songs from Mali.

Thursday 22 October 2020 Harvest Festival 2020 An important date in the Borough Academy calendar each year is Harvest Festival. Harvest Festival is a time to work with our local community partners and support them with small contributions to local food banks. Each year this helps our students make a very real contribution to the local community and reflect on how they are able to realise our motto “Serve and Obey.” This year our donations went to the Mana Day Centre and the Oasis Hub Waterloo. Both food banks were incredibly grateful to the generosity of our community and extended a huge thank you on behalf of everyone that is receiving donations.
