Key Information
Haberdashers’ Borough Academy is a new secondary school on Southwark Bridge Road, THAT OPENED in September 2019.
The school is being built on the old fire station site on Southwark Bridge Road, opposite Mint Street Park, with sports facilities on the Grotto Place site, which is between Sawyer Street and Sturge Street.
We are excited to have admitted the first children to year 7 in September 2019.
Haberdashers’ Borough Academy will be a comprehensive school with 180 places in each year group up to age 16. The school will grow by one year group every year thereafter until all the year groups are open. It will have a sixth form with 250 places which will open five years later, in order to admit the first children from the school who have completed their GCSEs. By that time it will have 1150 students.
The project to build Haberdashers’ Borough Academy was initiated in response to the increasing number of children in the local area requiring secondary school places and a predicted shortage of places within Southwark from 2019 onwards. The Haberdashers’ Academies Trust South were approached by a local parents campaign group who were trying to secure the fire station site for a school and asked if the Trust would develop a plan for a school to open there.
