Personal Development (PSHE)

Our primary objective at Haberdashers' Borough is to cultivate responsible, respectful, and active citizens who can actively engage in community life in the 21st Century transitioning into adulthood. We provide students with opportunities to explore and discuss fundamental British values, ensuring they are well-informed about where to seek assistance for their physical and mental well-being.

We are committed to empowering our students to identify both online and offline risks to their well-being, emphasizing the importance of responsible technology use. Our dedication to promoting equality is evident through our focus on learning about protected characteristics, fostering an inclusive environment in all aspects of school life, including various enrichment opportunities.

From Year 7 onward, we implement an effective careers program to prepare our students for the next phase of their education. We aim to extend support to students at various stages, be it transitioning after Year 11, moving between classes, or progressing through each academic year.

Implementation:

Students are strongly encouraged to actively participate in a diverse range of activities and experiences within and beyond the curriculum. By doing so, they contribute meaningfully to both their school and the local community, fostering a sense of their own worth and the ability to collaborate effectively with others, this aligns with our four core values. This active engagement also helps them take increasing responsibility for their own learning and personal development.

Throughout their journey, students gain insights into political and social institutions that shape their lives, understanding their rights, responsibilities, and duties as individuals and community members. Emphasis is placed on fostering an appreciation for our shared humanity, respecting diversity, and embracing differences, enabling students to build meaningful relationships essential for life and learning.

Framework for the Personal Development Programme:

The program is structured around three main areas:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Relationships
  • Living in the Wider World
